As they make their plans for their journey to the temple they find Blaxley Chillingquest sitting in front of the skull sword they can't shake off. He tries to convince Axley to wield the sword and the group gets the idea the sword speaks to Blaxley. They make their way into the depths of the temple where the coral dog is to be found. Listen to "Episode 17: Goodbye Darkport, Hello Sharkface" on Spreaker.

Axley and Reyla are 'stuck' in the Curiosity with Blaxley Chillingquest and Toddeus. While the Goat discusses how to run a guild with Blaxley, Axley tries to comfort Reyla and find out if she knows anything. Meanwhile, back in the Chamber of Eyes, Marcel, Emmeryn, and Khonnos figure out how to destroy the dog statue and then Emmeryn calls on her Goddess Goras to help get them out of the Temple safely. The group is finally reunited and makes their way off of the Dark Plateau. Axley pilots the Curiosity safely back to the Tempest's Fortune and the group tries to figure out what the heck Leralak is and what he is doing. When they arrive, they find there is another ship - a large galleon - floating in the ocean a few hundred feet away from the Tempest's Fortune. There has been a message delivered by some blue goblins requesting a duel and there is a herd of sharks circling the group's ship. They set about devising a plan to deal with the pirates.

Debrief: We discuss the importance of being flexible when a player makes a PC that is specialized for a particular environment or type of campaign, but then the game ends up putting the PCs predominantly in a different environment or the entire campaign takes off in an unexpected direction.

Episode 15: Darkport By Night, Ravens Delight

Listen to "Episode 15: Darkport By Night, Ravens Delight" on Spreaker.

Axley and Marcel decide to investigate the Curiosity to try and find out how fast it can travel. They stumble upon a blue goblin infestation on the island and rush back to the village to tell everyone about their findings. Meanwhile, Khonnos and Emmeryn meet with the Hokka people to discuss their plans. Upon hearing news of the goblins, Khonnos instructs them to destroy the threat while he goes with Axley, Marcel, and Emmeryn to fight a different foe. The group then departs the island and tests the ability of the Curiosity to travel between planes. They find themselves in a darker place with different rules of behavior and a price to pay. They meet the corrupt town guards and Axley makes a brazen attempt at deception. Finally, they figure out where they are supposed to go, and it is larger than they thought! How are they going to get in there?

Debrief: This episode we discuss Player Knowledge vs Character Knowledge. Also... How does a DM handle it when a particular PC has a better chance to know something compared to a different PC? How does a player handle it when there is a difference in what the PC knows compared to the player? Does this knowledge ever conflict with player agency? We touch on the idea of participation vs being an audience member, and whether a DM tells the players what their PCs missed when they are done with an adventure.

Episode 9: Hijinks Ensue!

Listen to "Episode 9: Hijinks Ensue!" on Spreaker.

Khonnos and Axley have sneaked onto the pirate ship under the cover of an invisibility spell. They search the ship and find that one of the cargo holds of the ship contains strange sacs of bluish fleshy material. Closer inspection by Khonnos reveals that they are blue goblin eggs incubating in the hold! They also find a room full of magical artifacts, no doubt stolen during the crew's piratical adventures. Lastly, they find a huge metal barrel that looks out of place aboard the ship. Axley finds a way to open the barrel and they discover that this is much more than a large tin can! Meanwhile, as Emmeryn and Marcel wait on the docks, they are approached by a two halflings. One introduces himslef as Dawmer Brittlespoon and expresses that they are looking for their cousin, Axley Tillingquest. They tell him that Axley must be back at the tavern, but he seems suspicious. Axley and Khonnos escape from the ship, with a little help from an ancient utra-rare artifact. Ulgrat comes back to the dock watch station and tries to settle the matter of damage caused by Khonnos and Axley exiting the suspected pirate ship. At the end of the negotiations the group leaves the island, possibly for the last time.

Debrief: The group discusses some magical items they found, where they want to go next, and how not-fun it is to watch the DM play out conversations between two or more NPCs. The whole point is to make things fun, so even if the players make odd choices or they roll so poorly that things go terribly wrong, the DM needs to be able to provide opportunities for the group to turn it around and salvage the situation.

Listen to "Episode 8: Is This A Pirate Ship I See Before Me?" on Spreaker.

This session the PCs split up! Marcel and Khonnos go to the agent's office of the Company of the Eastern Sun to see if they can get a map showing them the way to Kalport. Meanwhile, Emmeryn and Axley head to the tavern to ask Glafeis and Taruma about the name Ientarsus, which was inscribed on the fork-like tool Emmeryn found on King Crab Island. They find out some surprising information about Ientarsus and his connection to the Dwarven People from none other than Ulgrat, the Dock-Watch Captain. He tells them a DARK TALE about a shameful point in the history of the Dwarf Clans involving King Ientarsus and Dalencia, Queen of Souls, that culminated the destruction of an entire race of people. The party eventually comes together again and sets about selling some goods and obtaining supplies for their upcoming month-long journey. While trying to find a buyer for black powder, Axley sees a ship that flies a flag strangely similar to the one flown by The Red Tooth Society, a known group of pirates! The group investigates the ship, meeting Ulgrat's second in command in the process. What do they do with the ship? Blow it up? Reduce/Enlarge it? Report it to the authorities? Deciding that they need to get proof that the disguised ship is a pirate vessel, Axley and Khonnos board the ship under cover of invisibility!

Episode 7: Loose Lips Almost Sink Ships

Listen to "Episode 7: Loose Lips Almost Sink Ships" on Spreaker.

This session the PCs have a few heart-to-heart talks with each other as they sail back to Trastenfen. Once back in town they present Ulgrat the Dockwatch Officer with the gargantuan crab. Emmeryn goes to see her father while the rest of the group finds out that the crew is spreading tales of defeating enormous crabs and telling the townsfolk that a half-crab-man is on board the ship. Can they find a map with the location of the library? Can they convince Ulgrat NOT to make crab stew out of the gargantuan crustacean? Can they stop the sailors from spreading elaborate rumors? Do they get Leukanius to the Temple without being discovered?

DeBrief: The team ends the episode with discussion of where to go next and then, after a few technical difficulties, we discuss how divine spellcasting works and which spells the cleric gets to choose from when they prepare their spells each adventuring day.

Episode 5: Crabs in White Satin

Listen to "Episode 5: Crabs in White Satin" on Spreaker.

This session sees Marcel rejoining the group. They sneakily make their way to the standing stones where several half-crab half-man creatures are in the midst of performing a ritual. Combat ensues and the ritual is interrupted, but not before Axley and Khonnos get covered in goop, again! What does a captured half-crab-man tell the group? What do they find in the middle of the standing stones?

DeBrief: The team ends the episode with more discussion of theater of the mind and having helpful sketches, but not tactical maps, available during the game. Also discussed... the value of having overlapping areas of expertise between different PCs, using spells for interesting effects (breaking concentration), and is there a difference between a history check and a memory check? Can you use a perception check to remember something?
